Humane Society of Park County

Stafford Animal Shelter

The Humane Society of Park County has been serving the people and animals of Park County, Montana since 1986. HSPC opened the community’s first animal shelter, the Stafford Shelter, in February of 1999.

The Stafford Shelter is a state-of-the-art facility that can house up to 80 cats and 35 dogs. The shelter also has a grooming area, a pet supply shop, a spay/neuter surgery suite and a veterinary examination room.

The Shelter is located just east of Livingston on the Frontage road. From Livingston, head east on Park. We are a little over a mile past the bridge, just before the I-90 interchange. From outside of Livingston, take exit 337 off I-90. Turn west. The shelter is the first building on the left.

Please come visit us: Tuesday-Saturday, 11a.m.-5p.m.

Our Philosophy

We believe that each animal deserves to be treated with respect and compassion, as an individual with a unique personality.

We strive to provide for each pet’s physical and emotional well-being. Each animal receives daily meaningful human contact and an opportunity to interact with other members of its species. Each dog and cat has blankets and toys in its kennel. All receive a medical examination and routine vaccinations.

It is our goal to provide a safe, comfortable and enriching environment for our pets.

Programs and Services

Adoption: Our adoption counselors spend time with potential pet owners discussing their ideal dog or cat. We want to find a pet that matches your lifestyle. If you want to try it out before making the commitment of adoption, you can take an animal on a one-week Test Drive.

Behavior Helpline: Call us for help before you’re at your wit’s end. We provide tips and tricks to solve common behavior problems.

Education: We offer shelter tours and presentations to school and civic groups. Topics include dog bite prevention, responsible pet ownership, and wildlife awareness.

Sheltering: We provide a nurturing and enriching environment for the animals in our care. Our staff strives to provide for the emotional and physical well-being of the nearly 1,000 animals we shelter each year.

Volunteer: Our volunteers spend over 100 hours each month walking dogs, bathing and brushing animals, helping at fundraising and public relations events, and performing many other essential tasks. We are always looking for new volunteers. If you are interested, please call Erin, our Community Relations Coordinator, at (406) 222-2111 Monday-Friday.
