Shepherd/St. Bernard X,  brown with black,  Male,  2 Yr   Collar: black
STRAY: Allied St.
Steve is a 2yr old Shepherd/St. Bernard X that came into the shelter as a stray and surprisingly has not been claimed. Steve is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. He is quit the hit at the shelter with all of his lady friends. He is so handsome, friendly and has that flirty playful personality that has all of the ladies falling at his feet. So far Steve is player! He enjoys romping around the play arena sporting his athletic play bow and bouncy fun ways. Steve is a bit submissive and shy if another dog is a bit pushy, in fact he will fall to the ground and roll over saying, "uncle". Steve is also a hit with the gents as well. He is just so likeable he's everybody's favorite. He also enjoys cleanliness. He has been know to give other dogs a complete ear wash as they close their eyes and relax. It appears that Steve may be a Manny Nanny! I guess you could say he is in touch with his feminine side as well. Steve does jump up occasionally so small children might not be a good idea since he may knock them over. Steve has also been tested with cats once and he did very well. This test is not a guarantee but a good start indeed. Steve is young and would thrive in obedience. He loves attention and aims to please. Steve does know how to sit on command and he enjoys the tasty treat that follows. If you are looking for a social butterfly than look no further because Steve-O is the guy all you lucky ladies have been searching for. Come on down and take a real good look at this handsome devil. He's sure to steal your heart away!
[Picture] 1/25/2012   [12-0079]   Lewis
Shepherd X,  black,  Male,  1 Yr   Collar: choke
STRAY: National
Lewis is a 1 yr. old Shepherd X who was picked up by the dog catcher. This guy is quite dashing and sweet. Lewis is a friendly lad who enjoys a bit of play. So far Lewis has been put in two different play groups and has already proved himself a player. He has tangoed with our dog socialites Izzy and Tiger. Lewis prefers to play in a very robust fashion. He is young and full of exuberance and excitement. Lewis loves to wrestle around and stir up some fun with a game of chase. A high energy athletic dog would be a great match for this spunky guy. Besides his play style he is also incredibly intelligent. Clearly someone has worked with Lewis on his obedience as he will sit and shake on command. His leash manners are also good. Lewis is friendly guy, everybody's buddy. Not a shy guy at all. Lewis would do best with children ten on up due to his size and strength. He has not been tested with cats at this time. Lewis would thrive in a home full of action and adventure for he loves to go full speed ahead. He is full of enthusiasm, is athletic, and is looking for an exercise buddy who can match his pace. If you're looking for a stud muffin then come on down and meet Lewis. He's ready to rock your world!
[Picture] 1/24/2012   [12-Jetta]   Jetta
Border Collie,  tri,  Female,  1 Yr
STRAY:
Courtesy Listing: Jetta, is a great little dog that has had a not so great start in life! She found herself a mother of 9 puppies at the ripe age of 9 months herself! As well as being passed between different owners for reasons unknown to me! She is a darling tri-colored, soon to be spayed, one year old Border Collie. Jetta has quickly made friends with my pack and loves a good game of chase with my other foster dog, who is her age. She is quiet and well mannered, acting more like a mature dog, than a pup. Jetta is crate trained, house broken and gets along fine with cats. Her previous owner stated that she chased their horses, but I've found that she barks at mine but stops when given a verbal correction. Jetta is a bit unsure when meeting new people, but warms up quickly and is improving the more socialization she gets. She is agile and athletic and I believe she has the talent to be a fun agility dog! Her recall is very good off leash and she is learning some basic obedience as well. This little girl will blossom with a loving home that can build her trust and provide her with adequate exercise! She is living with children in her foster home, but would need to be properly introduced to them. If you would like more info on Jetta, please email or call Susan at shetlands@yahoo.com or 431-4887 Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 1/18/2012   [12-0054]   Amarelo
Lab,  yellow,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
STRAY: Howard Rd
Amarelo is a gorgeous 2 yr old yellow Lab who has surprisingly not been claimed. This cutie got her name from her beautiful amarelo yellow coat. All of the boys have been staring at this darling since she pranced through the door. All eyes are on her but she is not that interested in all of the commotion going on around her. She is a bit unsettled here with all of these new eyeballs upon her. Amarelo is a strong girl with a confident personality. She could improve upon her leash manners, or maybe it's her new environment that's got her scrambling for a more upscale life. Amarelo has been tested out with other dogs and she is not really into play right now. She does fine hanging out with other dogs but she has got a one track mind! Ms. Amarelo will hunt, hunt and hunt around until she finds a BALL!!! That's right this girl is ball obsessed and wants to play a good game of fetch. She is very energetic and has true Lab qualities. Amarelo would do well in a home that frequents the great outdoors. She is very athletic, intelligent and ready to work. Amarelo loves to retrieve so bird hunting might be a sport that she would thrive in. She is big and strong so teens on up are advised. Amarelo has not been tested with cats yet. All of you Lab lovers better come see this cutie patootie for she won't last long!
[Picture] 1/13/2012   [12-Finn]   Finn
Border Collie/Aussie X,  white/black/brown,  Male,  9 Mo
STRAY:
Courtesy Listing: "Finn" came to foster care as a timid, shy under-socialized boy. He was in a kill shelter in Utah and truly looked as he has lost his last friend. He is a young pup of about 9 months and appears to be a Border Collie/Aussie X. Although he should act like a puppy he is wise beyond his years; like he has had to survive on his own for a period of time. Finn is beginning to warm up and realize people are OK. Sometimes he even forgets and showers me with a couple of kisses on my nose! He wants to like people and trust them, but he has not had the opportunity to see their good side. Finn needs a home where his owner will use positive reinforcement and continue his education with obedience classes as well as provide him exposure to many people and situations to build his confidence! He is sweet and kind, but just scared and shy. Upon arriving he did not how to walk on a leash or go up and down stairs or ride in a car. He has now had all these experiences as well as baths and crate training. He is learning a recall too and realizes treats are good! Finn will do best in a home with another confident dog and will need a securely fenced yard at this point. He is starting to show his puppy side and is even learning that toys are fun! He has also learned the joys of play and loves nothing more than a good wrestling match with other dogs. Finn, does become overwhelmed in new situations, but responds well to patience and gentle reassurances. With an adopter who has the time and patience to complete his formal education and continue the work on socialization and building his confidence, I am certain he will become a top notch lad! In his foster home, Finn lives with other dogs, cats, horses and children and is perfecting his house-training skills. Prior to adoption he will be vaccinated, neutered and micro-chipped. Please understand that he will only be placed into a home that can provide him a safe and secure environment. For more information: please contact Susan @ shetlands@yahoo.com or (406)431-4887 Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 1/10/2012   [12-0032]   Magoo
Hound X,  black with white,  Male neutered,  3 Yr   Collar: brown leather
STRAY: Treasure State Acres
Magoo is a 3yr old Hound X who came to the shelter as a stray. Magoo is currently pin thin and has most likely been a stray for awhile or he clearly has not been fed adequately. His ribs stick out along with the rest of his bony body. He may be thin but he surely does have a lot of energy. Magoo is young and enjoys play. One of his favorite games is tug with a toy of some sort. Recently he was also placed in a very large play group with ten or more dogs. Magoo can play with low energy dogs and can also keep up with the fast crowd. He does occasionally mount other dogs which can be annoying to some. Magoo also is a bit pushy with certain dogs but gets along fine with others. A meet and greet is always advised with other household dogs. Our play group specialists would be happy to assist in a meet and greet play group. Magoo is very friendly with people and will sit on command. His leash manners are ok. Magoo loves the outdoors but gets cold easily due to being thin and having short hair. He typically wears a jacket outside to help keep him warm. Magoo also has sensitive feet when it comes to the cold. At this time Magoo has not been tested with cats. He would do well with children 10 on up due to his playful nature. Magoo is active and is looking for an outdoorsy person to keep up with his adventuresome outlook on life. Recently we have learned that Magoo is very, very intelligent! He came to the shelter knowing how to lift the handles on the gates up with his nose. We could not figure out how he was getting out of the fenced around so we watched him lift the latch up time and time again. This is easy to fix if you place a carabineer through the hole. Mr. Magoo is one smart cookie!!!! Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 1/10/2012   [12-0028]   Knucklehead
Pit Bull X,  brown merle,  Male neutered,  2 Yr
STRAY: Marysville
Knucklehead is a 2 yr. old Pit Bull X who came to the shelter as a stray. As far as the name goes it sure does not hold true. Knucklehead is actually a smart, confident dog who has a pretty good head on his shoulders. When Knucklehead first came to the shelter he was very reserved and timid. He would sit back in the corner of his kennel and watch all of the activity. He was a bit unsure of his surroundings at first. Knucklehead never barked in the kennel area either which is uncommon. Since coming to the shelter he has warmed up and is becoming more at ease with shelter life. Knucklehead is a strong dog but he walks nicely on a leash. When it comes to other dogs Knucklehead is quite confident as he holds his head up high and is not pushed around by bossy dominant dogs. Knucklehead was placed in a large play group of ten or more dogs and was playful with dogs that played respectfully. He does not tolerate rude dog behavior like mounting and humping. Knucklehead is very gently with people. He would do best in a home with children ten on up. Knucklehead has not been tested with cats at this time. Currently Knucklehead is our kennel assistant's favorite dog. Travis loves Knucklehead and raves about what a great dog he is. You know you’re looking at a special dog when he's somebody's favorite! Knucklehead was put in a play group with Nessie today and he got a thumbs up. Knucklehead was playful and he played like a complete gentleman. Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 1/8/2012   [12-0023]   Peggy
Bulldog,  brown/white,  Female spayed,  4 Yr
STRAY: Montana Ave
Peggy is a 4 yr. old female spayed Bulldog who was picked up as a stray. This poor little girl just had a litter of puppies as she was engorged with milk as she entered the shelter weary and tired. If you had puppies and needed the mother wouldn't you come looking for her? Maybe not if you were done with her. You know that old story, nobody wants the mother. Poor Peggy is tired and it shows. She has little energy right now as she is depressed and missing her litter. Not only did she get thrown out in the cold but she also recently got spayed so the abandonment will not happen to her again. Peggy is a very quiet little girl. She does not bark in the kennel area. She will come to the kennel if you have a treat in your hand. She will politely sit on command for you and wait patiently for you to give her a treat. Peggy is a very low energy dog at this point and does not require much exercise. She is very happy with someone to just treat her kindly with a gentle hand. Most of the time Peggy is found curled up in her little doggie bed at the shelter as she is still recovering from surgery. Her leash manners are great. She is small and easy to manage on a leash. She seems to like people of all ages and would most likely do well with children. Peggy has not been tested with cats or other dogs yet since she is not up to it at this time. If can relate getting kicked to the curb after you've proved your heart is made of gold, then come on down and let Peggy know that she is not alone in this cruel world. This sad little soul needs a true pair of angel wings to fly her to a new home where she is valued as a pet not a money making machine. Out on PAWSability.
[Picture] 1/7/2012   [12-0021]   Wishbone
Jack Russell,  white/brown,  Male neutered,  3 Yr
STRAY: E. Clark
Wishbone is a 3 Yr. old male neutered Jack Russell who was surprisingly never claimed. Wishbone is named after the true kids classic TV series "Wishbone". Our Wishbone is just as clever and smart as the original Wishbone. Unfortunately, our Jack Russell never made it back home . Wishbone is unbelievably friendly and super sweet. He warms up to any soul who will let him snuggle up with a kiss and a hug. Wishbone is a mellow Jack Russell, in fact he is the most laid back I have ever encountered. He has impeccable manners and is always easy to get along with and very well behaved. Wishbone knows a few commands and will sit when you prompt him too. He is very patient and courteous. Wishbone is also very friendly when it comes to other dogs. He enjoys a nice game of chase with his active dog pals and will also settle for just a nice walk in the park together with his easy going friends. He is easy to please and goes with the flow, a very happy little character that just warms the heart. His leash manners are terrific as he is very easy to manage. He's the perfect size for someone who enjoys a lap dog. This fine young chap is going to get along well in a variety of homes due to his sweet nature. Kids and other pets should not be a problem with this well rounded fellow. He has not been tested yet with cats yet. If you are looking for a little sweet pea then wait no longer for Wishbone is sure to make a quick exit due to his winning attributes. Wishbone is wishing for you to take him home sweet home. Out on PAWSability.
[Picture] 1/6/2012   [12-0016]   Cooper
Jack Russell,  white/brown,  Male neutered,  6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Cooper is a darling little Jack Russell who was an owner turn in. Apparently Coopers owners turned him in for fighting with other small dogs. That's nothing new, small dogs usually have big attitudes. Rumor has it that Cooper would brawl with the other dogs and he would redirect and bite the hand that was coming in to break it up. First things first, don't ever try and break up a dog fight with your hand because you will most likely get bit every time. If you are interested in breaking up dog fights appropriately please talk to our dog trainer or our play group specialists. Anyways, Cooper apparently has put a few punctures bites to a few hands. So far at the shelter Cooper has been on his best behavior. He is a bit shy and timid as he will back away from you at first to make sure you aren't going to hurt him. It takes only a minute or so for him to warm up to you. After that he is easy to leash up and walk on a leash as well. We were concerned about his past history with redirect biting so we decided to see how he did in some play groups. As to date he has good greeting skills with other dogs that are the same size as him. Cooper has been put into a playgroup with our other Jack Russell named Wishbone. Wishbone is more confident than Cooper but the two together made a great pair. Cooper had no troubles getting along with Wishbone. Since he got along so good with Wishbone we decided to put him with another dog that is not as dog social as Wishbone. Cooper again did very well with Bean a Maltese who has little exposure to other dogs. The next day Cooper, Wishbone and Bean all enjoyed the play arena for 50 minutes without any problems. Cooper seems to be tolerant of the dogs so far at the shelter. So far we have not seen any signs of aggressive behavior with him. Cooper will continue to be put in play groups to test his behavior. Unfortunately, it has been too cold lately. He is very intolerant to the cold weather and must be an indoor dog. Cooper may be a bit too much for small children since he has a rumored history of biting. Teens on up would be best. Cooper has great leash manners. He is very easy to control since he is very small in size. Cooper has not been tested with cats at this time. Please come on down and see if Cooper will work for you. Besides the bicuspids, he sure is cute, cute, cute!! Cooper was doing so well in a small dog play group so we decided to add one big, gentle dog. Unfortunately, Cooper's big dog attitude came out and he did scrap immediately with the big dog but nobody got hurt. Cooper is a small dog with a BIG dog ATTITUDE! This little guy packs a solid sucker punch! We will continue to test his behavior.
[Picture] 1/6/2012   [12-0014]   Amigo
Lab X,  black,  Male neutered,  4 Yr
STRAY: Chaparall
Amigo is a 4yr old Lab X who came to the shelter as a stray and unfortunately has not been claimed. Amigo is a very nice, healthy looking dog. When he first came to the shelter we could not think of a good name for him so we had to watch him for awhile to see what fit and we came up with "Amigo". Amigo means friend in Spanish. He came right out of the chute as friendly, a brother, chum, pal, buddy, a true side kick. Amigo loves people and he will wiggle his way to you and may even wiggle on down to the ground in a submissive roll over. He smiles when he comes up close to you sharing all of his brotherly love. Amigo has been popular with the other dogs and is probably our newest favorite newcomer to the play arena. Amigo recently attended a large play group with 11 other dogs and he was like a kid at a candy shop. He could not figure out who to play with because there were so many to choose from so he just went on his way playing with everyone who accepted his invitation. Amigo can play with two groups of dogs here at the shelter. He does well with laid back dogs and high energy dogs. He is happy just walking around or he can just flat break it down and bust a move through the play arena in a full robust game of chase, wrestle and keep away. Amigo does tend to get tired after about 20 minutes of very robust play, he is just a tad bit overweight but who's keeping track. Amigo has pretty good leash manners as well. He would most likely do well in a home with children 10 on up due to his size. Hiking, playing and a long term relationship are a few things he loves. Amigo has not been tested out with cats yet. If your looking for love, friendship and companionship then look no further for Amigo is the dog for you. Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 1/3/2012   [12-0009]   Bailey
Catahoula,  black with merle,  Female spayed,  6 yrs.
OWNER TURN IN: Bailey is a 6 yr. old Catahoula who was an owner turn in. Unfortunately, Bailey's parents called it quits and she got the short end of the stick and ended up at the shelter. Since coming to the shelter she is very friendly with familiar faces. She is a bit unsure of new people at first but she warms up quickly. Bailey is a very big girl and has clearly lacked exercise in her previous home. She absolutely loves to go for a walk but she does get winded after about 15 minutes or less. She could stand to lose some weight for she is too heavy for a 6 year old dog. Bailey is getting walked at the shelter daily to help with her weight management so expect her to thin down. She has also been put into a few play groups as well. For the most part she gets along well with most of the dogs but she has been a little picky with another overweight female. At this time she has not been tested out with cats. Bailey has one funny little habit that we noticed right off. She enjoys playing London Bridge. Yeah that's right she likes to weave and weave between your legs. Pay attention because she will come around your back side and slip through your legs and come out the other side. Remember she is a big girl so you better have your feet planted solid when she's around. Bailey would probably do best in a more relaxed home. Older folks would have to be careful because she may get under your feet and knock you over. Kids 10 on up would be best due to her size and weaving. She is looking forward to a new home that is without tension and discord. Bailey is a happy girl and is seeking a long term relationship in a quiet, friendly household.

Meet Barney! Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 12/23/2011   [11-2009]   Sparky
Springer,  black/white,  Male neutered,  3 Yr   Collar: `
STRAY:
Sparky is a 3 yr old Spring Spaniel that was found as a stray. Sparky is a bigger Springer and he has a few extra pounds to prove it. Spark is a very social guy. He will wiggle his little tail back and forth to let you know he is oh so happy. He loves to be around people. Sparky has been placed in two play groups with other dogs. The first dog he wiggled around a bit and then he walked around smelling the ground with little or no interaction. The second time he played very well with another dog for 7 minutes and shortly after he did snark at the other dog. Sparky is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to other dogs. One minute he is ok and the next he may snark for reasons that are not clear. It is a possibility that he may resource guard around other dogs meaning he will protect what he finds valuable. An official dog evaluation will be done by our knowledgeable dog trainer soon. Sparky walks good on a leash as he wiggles his tail. Sparky would do best in a home with teens on up only because we are not sure about his questionable resource guarding. He has not been tested out with cats at this time. Sparky is incredibly gentle with people and he would make a nice addition to a home who will spend some time with him. He enjoys spending quality time together and craves human companionship. Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 12/13/2011   [11-1964]   Noot
Puggle X,  brown,  Female,  2 Yr
STRAY: hospital area
Noot is a 2 yr old female Puggle X who came to the shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed. Noot is a spunky little dog with a big dog personality. She is not shy at all! She is very friendly and will greet you with open arms. One thing that our dog specialist noticed is that she does not really like being picked up but she will gladly jump up in your lap for some treats. Noot is young and has not had any obedience training. She will go bonkers trying to figure out how to get the treats out of your hand. She is a bit impatient with obedience only because she wants the treat NOW! She is learning how to be patient and is figuring out how to sit with verbal and hand commands. She is a very sweet and vivacious girl. Occasionally she can be a bit bossy and pushy with other dogs. Clearly she rules the roost! Noot will start out with a robust play bow and then zip around the play arena while running and chasing at full speed. Her favorite game is hide and seek followed by an outbreak of chase. If humans want to jump in she is just as eager to play with them as well. The more the merrier. Noot has ok leash manners. She is a little dog so she is easier to manage. Noot has not been tested out with cats. Noot would do well in a home with children 10 on up and possibly younger. This little girl is our newest rock star. She is full of energy and life. If you love the Puggle then look no further for Noot is nothing but a hoot! Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 11/29/2011   [11-1901]   Biscuit
Pug/Terrier X,  tan/black,  Male neutered,  4 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Biscuit is a 4 yr old male Pug/Terrier X who was turned in with his bodyguard Titan. This unusual pair was turned in to the shelter because their owners got busted for having pets when they were not suppose too. Unfortunately, their owners had to turn them in. Biscuit is quite the funny looking guy. He would like to be a body double in Men in Black II. He's got the looks, physique and quirky little personality to fill the part. Biscuit was told he looked like a cook at a chuck wagon with his grizzly little beard, funny little under bite, barrel chest, and skinny little legs. When he looks in your eyes you can't help but let out a little chuckle. He is just a character ! Biscuit loves to run around with his good buddy Titan. He prefers his big pal but does not mind running around with the big dogs. Biscuit does not get pushed around either, he has no problems letting other dogs know that he is big biz! So far he has done well in doggie play groups. Biscuit has nice leash manners and he will sit if you prompt him too. He will give you his undivided attention if you have a treat for him. Biscuit is a little guy so he is easy to handle. Most likely he would do well with children due to his size and good nature. He has not been tested with cats. Biscuit is really hoping that someone will take him and Titan home so they can watch reruns of Men and Black and laugh at all the funny looking characters! Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 11/27/2011   [11-1896]   Duke
Hound X,  tan/white,  Male neutered,  2 Yr
STRAY: Hauser
Duke is a 2 yr old male Hound X. He was picked up by the ole dog catcher and turned in as a stray. Duke is a big dog and he would prefer a large yard or country living with plenty of outlets for his high activity level. Duke loves to run his nose to the ground like an aardvark and pick up on all of the good scents around him. He loves to go for walks and hikes and would do well tracking another animal. He also has the characteristic of a true Hound, some occasional drool. Once in awhile he will sling just a little slobber up on his nose to shine it up a bit. With or without the slobber he is a good looking boy. Duke needs a little work on his leash manners. When the nose hits the ground he tends to leash pull. He would benefit from a round of obedience training. Duke is a smart dog and would catch on quick. He is bigger so a strong owner would be advised. Duke would also do better in a home with older kids, teenagers and up due to his size and strong build. Duke has not been tested with other dogs yet but he did arrive at the shelter with his friend Bo. A meet and greet with other dogs would be necessary. At this time Duke has not been tested with cats. He is a go getter and would love to go to a home where there is plenty of hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoorsy. Duke would enjoy your company if you love the Hound dog breed.
[Picture] 11/27/2011   [11-1895]   Bo
Akita X,  white,  Male neutered,  2 Yr
STRAY: Hauser
Bo is a very sweet, charming young Akita X. Bo was picked up on Hauser Ave. and brought in as a stray. So far Bo is a pretty laid back dog who is quite friendly with other dogs. Bo is a happy go lucky guy who loves a little adventure. He loves to go for walks, hikes and car rides. Bo's leash manners are very good as he is easy to walk on a leash. Bo would make a great family dog due to his happy go lucky nature. Most likely Bo would do well with children 10 years and older and possibly even younger. Bo has not been tested with cats yet. If you are looking for an all around nice dog who so far gets along with everyone, then come meet Bo and see if he is the right guy for you. Out on PAWSability.
[Picture] 11/22/2011   [11-1873]   Andrea
Chow/Lab X,  black,  Female spayed,  3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Andrea is a 3 yr old chow/lab cross. She is a real sweet girl who was turned in twice by her owners because she is a bit too fond of the kitties. Andrea would do well in a home with other dogs but she is just too interested in cats. She has a great disposition. A bit timid and shy but warms up quickly. Andrea typically does well with other dogs as she is not pushy in the least bit. She has been double kenneled with other dogs in the past because she is easy going and makes for a nice dog companion. She has spent a little too much time at the shelter (almost a year) and she would like to make a quick exit. If you are interested in a girl who is just friendly, loving and easy going she might just be the girl for you. Andrea would love a family with kids, most likely older kids. She is a versatile girl who would fit nicely in many types of homes. Andrea loves attention but particularly likes a gentle loving hand. Andrea loves to hike, camp and just basically wants to love that special someone. Andrea also hopes you will take a special look at her since she is a black dog. Many black dogs are overlooked in shelters and she hopes you will not overlook her sweet personality!

American Shelter Dog,  brindle,  Male neutered,  3 Yr
STRAY: Grey Rock
Tiger New Bio: Tiger is a 3 year old male American Shelter Dog who came to the shelter as a stray. Unfortunately, this unique looking guy never caught up with his rightful owner. As you can see by his picture Tiger is a bundle of fun! He is the social butterfly at the shelter. Tiger has a great reputation with all of his dog pals. He is one of the main players in the play arena due to his impressive dog skills. Tiger does not come on too strong, he is patient and greets dogs politely and gives other dogs their space. Tiger without a doubt is a role model to other dogs at the shelter. He is a teacher to some of the dogs who have little or no dog social skills. Currently he is double kenneled because he is so outgoing. Tiger has nice leash manners as well. He enjoys going for walks with his dog walking pals. He is quite athletic and he would love to go to a home to the outdoorsy type. Tiger would most likely get along nicely with children. He has not been tested out with cats. If you are looking for one solid dog who loves people and other dogs, Tiger might just be the guy you are looking for. Come on down and meet Tiger, he's sure to capture your heart
[Picture] 10/27/2011   [11-1714]   Kady
Shepherd X,  tan,  Female spayed,  4 Yr
STRAY:
Kady has recently started obedience training in January and she attends 5 days a week. Let me tell you dogs learn very, very quickly when you work with them consistently. This little girl has a fancy for big vehicles passing her by. She tends to bark and want to chase them. She is also working on this diligently with our very skilled dog trainer. Kady has learned some new commands and she knows them well. She knows how to sit, stay, come and will do a down with a command. Kady is also learning how to loose leash walk and is doing very well. She is also very attentive if you play ball with her and call out commands. There is no question that ball play is her favorite game and she looks forward to it. Kady is one of three dogs currently attending daily obedience at the shelter as she works with a specialized training crew. She works with a dedicated team for at least 5 hours a week and it shows! If you are looking for a dog that is already trained on her commands then come and look at Kady. She is a super sweet gal!
[Picture] 10/6/2011   [11-1407]   Izzy
Shepherd/Lab X,  black/brown,  Female,  2 Yr
STRAY: Lincoln
Izzy is a 2 yr old Shepherd/Lab X who came to the shelter as a stray. Izzy was picked out on Lincoln Rd. so she might enjoy country living. Izzy is an energetic girl who has a zest for life. She loves to play with most of the dogs at the shelter. Izzy has not been tested out with cats. She would do best with a dog about her size or a little bigger. Currently she weighs about 80lbs. She tends to maintain a nice healthy weight at the shelter which is not always typical. Playing is one of her passtimes at the shelter. Izzy enjoys a fast, robust game of chase as she wrestles around the play arena. She also enjoys engaging in a fun game of keep away with a toy. If nobody is available to play with Izzy she will make up her own original games and play with the toys around her as she tosses them over her head. Izzy is learning how to sit with command and is doing well. She does need to brush up on her leash walking as she is a leash puller. Izzy is also very strong so she would need to have a strong owner who could handle her on a leash. Most likely it appears that she would have good recall with voice command. Izzy is a social girl and she loves people! She would do well in a home with children 10 and up. If you like the looks of a shepherd mixed with a lab personality then come on over and meet Izzy. She's a true lab at heart!

Her leash manners are very good. She is a favorite with the older volunteer dog walkers because she is so easily directed. Nessie is always having a good time no matter what she is doing. As you can tell by her picture she is all smiles. Nessie would do well in a home with other dogs. She has not yet been tested out with cats. Nessie would also do well in a home with children of all ages with appropriate supervision. She is an all American girl and she would do well in many types of homes. He loves to run around and play keep away with a toy. Petey is full of energy and enjoys robust play! He enjoys running along the fence and stirring up some fun. Cats and small dogs are too much of a temptation for Petey. He would do best in a home with a similar or larger sized dog. A meet and greet would be advised due to his spunky play! Small children may be knocked over so teenagers and older children are advised. Petey enjoys mental stimulation and loves human companionship. He is currently looking for someone to take him home sweet home! Out on PAWSability!

Lab X,  black,  Female spayed,  8 Mo
STRAY: Wal-Mart
Amelia is a one year old Lab X. This skinny little girl was found wandering around out in the Walmart parking lot. She is black with little white spots that really make her unique looking. Her big bright blue eyes will capture your attention. Amelia is a very athletic dog who enjoys showing off her abilities in the play arena. She frequently plays with the top notch high energy dogs because she can keep up in the chase department. Not only can she run quite fast but she has also been known to hurdle a fenced area in a few split seconds. Luckily, she is friendly and very social so she sticks around when she does get out. Amelia would love to go to a home who enjoy the outdoors. Hiking, fishing, and running are a few of her favorite things. It's a rare occasion if Amelia runs out of energy. She has a zest for life and would love to share it with an active family. Older children would be a better fit than young children due to her robust nature. Amelia typically does very well with most dogs. She has not been tested out with cats. Amelia is looking for an adventurous owner to take her along in their travels. Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 8/31/2011   [11-1221]   Lucky
Heeler X,  black/grey,  Male,  3 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Lucky is a 3 yr old male Heeler X who is not so lucky after all. Unfortunately, Lucky and his sister Shadow were turned into the shelter due to their owners moving away. Since that time Lucky's sister has also left the shelter without him. Now Lucky is waiting for someone to take him to a new comfy home. Lucky is a bit stressed at the shelter due to all of the upheaval in his life. He is a bit anxious about everything going on around him. Lucky did very well with his sister but has a tendency to not really care for other dogs. He is not very dog social but loves his favorite dog walkers. Lucky gets very excited when the dog walkers show up. One funny little thing that has been noted about Lucky is that he must have a bladder the size of Texas because he goes and goes and goes and we can't figure out where it's all coming from. Lucky is a master at holding poop and pee until he is outside. Once he gets outside he will sometimes go find a tug toy and play tug with you. He enjoys running after his toys but does not always bring them back. Lucky needs some work on his leash manners. He tends to pull on the leash. He would do better with a harness and a bit of obedience on loose leash walking. Lucky does know some commands. He will sit, and shake for you with a tasty treat in hand. He tends to take treats a bit hard but he is working on this and is improving. Lucky would do very well in obedience since he is very treat motivated. Lucky has also lived with small children in the past and has not been tested with cats. Lucky is truly hoping that he can call himself "Lucky" again because right now he is down on his luck. Lucky is patiently waiting for someone to pick him up and take him home sweet home! Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 8/25/2011   [11-1190]   Loki
Pit Bull,  white/brown,  Male,  1 Yr   Collar: black
STRAY: White Gulch
Loki is a 1 yr. male who came to the shelter as a stray. Loki is a good looking handsome pit. He enjoys a good game of tug and his favorite toy is the jolly ball. When Loki first came to the shelter he came in with his sister who has been adopted out. He was very "low key" upon arriving at the shelter. Loki has been at the shelter now since August and finds it a bit stressful. His kennel presence deteriorated rapidly. Due to him getting more stressed since his arrival he is now working with a core group of people to improve his emotional welfare. Loki attends play groups at least 3x a week. He prefers to play with dogs he knows well as he is timid and shy with new dogs. He typically feels overwhelmed and will tuck his tail, put his ears back and go sit by the exit. He does however love playing with Bullett and Izzy. Currently he is in obedience training 5 days a week. He knows his commands well. He will sit, down, come, stay, leave it and watch me on command. Loki's leash manners are also very good as he has been loose leash trained. Loki generally gets along well with most dogs and is considered dog social. Some more good news is that he tends to do well with cats. He has been tested once and is nonreactive to cats on a leash. If you are interested in this handsome young pit stop by and check out his stunning looks. Loki would love to find a home soon for he is having a hard time coping with shelter life. Loki is waiting for all you pit lovers to come show your loyal pit love and take him home under your wing. Once he knows you he's all sugar and no spice. Loki urgently needs some TLC!!

STRAY: Kleffner Ranch
Short, stocky, and long are a few ways to describe Briggs, a Pit/Basset cross, that came in as a stray in early August. This sweet little guy has a wonderful disposition and is quite the cuddler. Briggs knows pretty much all of his obedience training, but wouldn't mind going through classes for some one on one time with his new family. He loves to play and will play with any toy you want to share with him. He also seems playful with other dogs, although he can be a bit mounty with them from time to time. He has yet to be tested with cats. Briggs would like a home with older children, preferably in their teens. Although he may be short, it doesn't mean that he isn't active! Briggs loves to go on walks and hikes and has plenty of energy to go around! Briggs would like an active home where he could go on walks and go camping with his new family. [Picture] 7/8/2011   [11-0924]   Victoria
Heeler X,  black/tan,  Female spayed,  5 Mo
STRAY: Browning
Unlike her brother Beckham, Victoria is more laid back and people motivated. Victoria came to the shelter as a 4 month old puppy from Browning and has been being overlooked by potential adopters, although we don't know why! This sweet little girl is quite the cuddle bug and loves to be around her person/people all of the time. She would be a good family dog with more mellow children as she has a very quiet disposition. Victoria is good with other dogs, but has not been introduced to cats yet. She is undergoing training to learn her basic commands and is also learning how to kennel up. Victoria is extremely smart and is motivated by affection from her people. If you are looking for an exceptionally smart and loyal little girl to join your family then Victoria is the dog for you! Update: Victoria is currently enrolled in the Carroll College Human-Animal Bonding Program until May of 2012. She wont be available for adoption until then. The trainer that is working with her will have first choice if they want to adopt her. Wish her luck!
[Picture] 7/8/2011   [11-0923]   Beckham
Heeler X,  black/tan,  Male neutered,  5 Mo
STRAY: Browning
Full of energy and ready to go, Beckham can hardly contain himself when he thinks about finding his new home! This sweet little guy is rambunctious and playful and loves to play soccer. He will kick the ball away from him, just so he can go pick it up and kick it again! Beckham loves other dogs, but can be a little over exuberant with more laid back dogs, but he listens well when put in his place by older doggies. Beckham is extremely smart and is learning his obedience training and how to kennel up. Treats are one of Beckham’s favorite motivators and he will do almost anything for treats. Beckham would be a great family dog, although he may be a little much at first with young kids. If you are looking to add a soccer star into your family, then Beckham is more than happy to kick the ball around with you in the backyard! Enrolled in the Human-Animal Bond Program at Carroll College!
[Picture] 5/22/2011   [11-0628]   Fluffy
Mixed,  black,  Male neutered,  9 Mo
STRAY: Browning
When you live on the streets, life can be rough, but despite it all, Fluffy is bursting with puppy energy and ready to give (and get) plenty of affection in a new home. Fluffy came to the shelter after a spay and neuter clinic in Browning. Fluffy is extremely smart and when given indoor/outdoor access, will go outside to use the bathroom. Fluffy would not be good with children due to his overwhelming excitability. When it comes to other dogs, Fluff is like a Fluffinator and is a bit rough in play. Fluffy can stir up his own fun by tossing rawhides and shoving himself in a toy box. He is also working daily on obedience training and is catching on quick. Fluffy is a bit hyper but he calms down nicely when given the opportunity. Fluffy must go to an experienced dog owner and a consultation with our knowledgeable dog trainer is required. Fluff would do well with someone who really loves dogs and has the patience to work with him to turn him into the dog he so desperately wants to be. Fluffy has a good heart and tries hard to do the right thing.
[Picture] 1/29/2011   [11-0106]   Hercules
Pit Bull,  brown/white,  Male neutered,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Meet Hercules, a loving, loyal pit bull who was turned in to the shelter because his owners could not keep him anymore. This handsome young pit has captivating good looks. Unfortunately, he has been misunderstood in the past and is here now to straighten out his story. He adores people and makes for a great sidekick. He would do best with teenagers and up. Hercules has a long list of things he likes to do. Some of his favorites include hiking, long walks and just someone to love. Hercules has been at the shelter for a very long time due to being misunderstood. Fortunately, Herc has proved us all wrong and is ready and waiting to find his new home. Hercules is patiently waiting for one of those oh so loyal pit lovers to walk through the door and rescue him! He understands loyalty and is ready to give it all back! A consultation with our dog trainer is required. Don't hesitate come on down and meet Hercules! Update: Hercules has unfortunately lost his foster home due to the other dogs in the house not tolerating him. Poor Herc is back at the shelter and is in dire need of a home or potential foster care. The shelter has provided Herc with a kennel in the main area however, Herc quickly deteriorated in less than a week. Herc is clearly unable to handle the stress from the ear piercing barking and dogs jumping up. Due to the incredibly stressful environment Herc would jump up in his kennel and subsequently tore his paws up to where he could barely walk. Herc ended up with sores to his paws, nose and around his eyes. Since that time management has decided that Herc cannot be kenneled in the main kennel area due to stress and immediate deterioration. Unfortunately, this means that Herc cannot be seen by the public so his chance for adoption is very poor. Currently Herc is being held in a different building that is not so stressful. Herc is tired and weary of the shelter environment and is in dire need of a qualified home. We are begging someone in the community to please step forward and take Herc out on trial for a 2 week period. He does not do well with cats or other dogs. Adoption will be paid for in full to an approved home. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP HERC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Out on PAWSability!
[Picture] 9/21/2010   [10-1330]   Giselle
Shepherd X,  black/tan,  Female spayed,  2 Yr
OWNER TURN IN: Giselle is a 2 yr. old Shephard X who was an owner turn in for not getting along with the cats. Giselle recently went out on pawability and she did great with the household cats and has been tested with the cats at the shelter as well and has not had any issues thus far. Giselle is a very sweet girl who is very friendly with people. She has a history of being double kenneled with a male dog for quite some time and got along great with her old roomie. Unfortunately, her roomie has been adopted and she is still here at the shelter. Giselle gets along great with some dogs but will brawl with others and when she brawls, she BRAWLS. Her last brawl was under the dinner table when she went out on paws. She did great for the first week prior to having food around. However, Giselle had no troubles with sharing food with her old roommate. A meet and greet would be required since she is dog selective. Giselle has lived with kids in the past but older kids would do best do to her exuberance and athletic nature. Not only is she very athletic but she is very intelligent as well. She was selected to complete a 6 week obedience class and did graduate with flying colors. Giselle has also had exposure to clicker training and is still very sharp with obedience. She would do great in a home who values exercise and staying healthy. Giselle needs frequent exercise and enjoys running, hiking and biking through the mountains. If you are willing to commit to a life full of fun and adventure than Giselle is the girl for you. She is strong and holds the utmost integrity as she has fought through the ups and downs of being at the shelter for over a year. Giselle is our Ms. Red, White and Blue, for she has fought the battle and we know she is a survivor. Giselle may feel the emotional battle scars from being incarcerated for over a year but we know this girl is strong and will continue to fight for the home she deserves. She is a true inspiration as she has won our hearts over. Come on down and meet this all American girl.
