Missoula Animal Control is the county's animal control facility. Most of the strays and abandonned animals will become available for adoption if unclaimed by their owners. MAC also accepts owner surrendered animals for a fee.

The Humane Society of Western Montana is a private, non-profit facility which accepts owner surrendered, abandoned, and stray animals.

Bangtail Dog Rescue is a non-profit rescue specializing in deaf dogs, especially the herding breeds. We also rescue hearing herding breed dogs when space is available.

Animeals is a no kill adoption center and animal food bank. We supply food to shelters, rescues, people that are homebound, disabled and people that feed feral cat colonies.

Basset Rescue of Montana in Frenchtown is a private, non-profit animal shelter for Bassets and an occasional German Shepherd Dog if shelter room is available.
