We here at the Rimrock Humane Society take
the
placement of our animals very seriously. All homes are
screened
and visited, references are checked and applications weeded
through
with a fine tooth comb. New adoptive homes for dogs will have
to
have a fenced in yard or some form of restraint so the dogs
are
safe at home. Cats must be indoor pets only and not allowed to
run
loose without supervision. Please review all of our adoption policies.
RIMROCK HUMANE SOCIETY STANDARDS FOR ADOPTION
THE RIMROCK HUMANE SOCIETY’S goal is to place companion animals in safe, loving, forever homes. To meet these goals, we must have basic requirements to help alleviate pet over-population and ensure responsible, caring pet ownership.
1. Animals must be adopted primarily as household companion animals only. No dogs will be placed as guard or attack dogs and no cats as mousers only. Dogs will be part of the family and not chained outside. Cats will be indoor pets - the lifespan of an outdoor cat is 18 months, an indoor cat is 14 years. You do the math!
2. Montana State Law requires that all canines and felines adopted from a shelter or pound be altered. All dogs and cats adopted from the Rimrock Humane Society will be spayed or neutered prior to going to their new homes. Currently owned animals must be up-to-date on vaccinations. Your veterinarian may be contacted to verify your pet’s health record.
3. If adopter's circumstances change, please return the pet to the shelter.
4. We prefer that puppies and kittens be 8 weeks of age at the time of adoption. If there are children under 6 years old in a home, we recommend adopting a puppy or kitten OVER the age of 4 months. If no one will be home during the day, adoption of a very young animal will be discouraged.
5. Declawed cats will be placed as indoor-only companions.
6. All adopters must be 18 years or older. Identification is required to adopt any pet.
7. If an adopter resides in a rental unit, we must have landlord’s name and phone number. Written permission is required from the landlord in order to adopt a pet.
8. Animals cannot be adopted as gifts for another person. Gift certificates are available.
9. Animals must NOT be transported in the back of an open vehicle.
10. We encourage all family members to be present at the time of adoption. All household members must want this pet.
11. A home visit WILL be conducted prior to adoption.
12. No dog will be released for adoption unless the adopter can provide an adequately fenced yard, have a trolley system or a large enough kennel that the dog is willing to eliminate in that area. Dogs MUST have some form of restraint when outdoors unattended.
Below you will find our dog and cat adoption
applications
and terms of adoption forms. Please print these, fill them
out,
sign them and fax them to the shelter at (406) 323-1863. You
may
also copy, paste and return them by e-mail to wschurch@midrivers.com. Whether you
are
interested in a dog or cat, you must return both the adoption
application
AND the terms of adoption. No applicant will be considered
without
both pieces of information! Thank you.
